1404605 Agitator mills NETZSCH MASCHINENFABRIK Gebr 13 Oct 1972 [14 Oct 1971] 47403/72 Heading B2A [Also in Division F2] An agitator mill comprises a container 1, 2 which may be jacketed and is charged with material and grinding media, an agitator 12 mounted on a shaft 13 to pass through a separator 4 an outlet chamber 6 adjacent the container and a wall 8 opposite the separator 4, and a seal coaxial and rotatable with the agitator shaft. This seal comprises a metal disc 14 with a sealing surface separated from the inner surface of the wall 8 of the outlet chamber 6 by a small clearance. The separator 4 may be formed as a conical sieve. On the upper face of the wall 8 is a cup 16 which is filled with a sealing fluid to prevent evaporation of solvent from within the mill. The cup may include a lid and the fluid may be pressurised. The disc 14 bears vanes or paddles 18 which produce a downward impulse in the fluid and may be adjustable and perforated, Fig 3 and 4 (not shown), or alternatively may be radial blades 23, Fig 2 (not shown). Rings 24, 25 are arranged where the shaft 13 passes through the separator 4 to prevent passage of grinding media. The ring 25 is screwed to a sleeve on the lower ring 24 and secured by a lock nut 26. The ring 24 is adjustable and held in its adjusted position by a lock nut 27.
