1403564 Brightening polymers SANDOZ Ltd 23 May 1972 [26 May 1971] 24206/72 Headings C3P and C3R [Also in Divisions C2 and C5] In examples optical brighteners of formula where R 1 is H, F, Cl, CN, COOH or SO 3 H or an amide or ester thereof, a sulpho group in salt form, alkylsulphonyl or o/s arylsulphonyl; R 2 is R 1 or o/s phenyl, o/s alkyl, or o/s benzoxazole; R 3 and R 4 are independently H, F, Cl, CN, O/S C 1-6 alkyl, COOH or an ester or amide thereof while R 4 may also be aryl; A is H, o/s alkyl, aryl or B-CH = CH- where B is aryl or heterocyclic are used as additives in spinning solutions or melts for (B), (C), (H) polyethylene terephthalate, (D) poly-#-caprolactam, (E) caprolactam and the mixture polymerized, (D), (F) polypropylene and (G) polyvinyl chloride. Other usual additives may be present.
