Abstract

1402743 Centrifugal pumps PEABODY BARNES Inc 26 Sept 1972 [11 Jan 1972] 44434/72 Heading F1C A self-priming pump comprises a casing having a volute chamber 14, Fig. 1, for the impeller 20, and an inlet port 16 and a outlet port 18 in communication with the volute chamber, the casing being formed of two separate shells 10, 12 which are releasably secured together. The securing means comprises a band 26, Figs. 1 and 6, which detachably encircles the joint 30 between the shells 10, 12 and is V-shape in cross-section to provide a clamping effect when tightened by means of a bolt 28. An access opening 40 is closed by a detachable cover 42 which is held in place by a saddle (44), Fig. 2 (not shown), which can be released by slackening a hand nut 48. The cover 42 holds a check valve 36 in place. In a modification, the fixed wear plate 52 is replaced by a replaceable wear plate 56, Fig. 3, of rubber or plastics material, having a flange 68' and lugs 64, 66'which fit into corresponding slots 60, 62 in a recess 54 formed in the shell 10a.
