Abstract

1402598 Magnetic discs; coating apparatus BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 17 Nov 1972 [20 Nov 1971 3 Jan 1972] 53136/ 72 Headings B2E and B2L In a process for the production of magnetic coatings on discs, a pourable magnetic dispersion is applied, as by spraying from nozzle 14, simultaneously to both faces of an inclined rotating base disc, the dispersion is distributed uniformly over both faces, excess being removed centrifugally and simultaneously the coating is dried and/or cured whereby a uniform magnetic layer is formed on both faces of the disc. Suitable magnetic dispersions may contain γFE 2 O 3 , magnetite or ferromagnetic metal pigments in epoxy resins, phenoxy resins, aminoplast precondensates, polyester resins, or polyurethanes, if desired together or together with polycarbonates, vinyl chlorides polymers, vinylidene chloride polymers, and acrylates and mehacrylate copolymers. Tetrahydrofuron, toluene and methyl ethyl ketone may be used to make pourable dispersions. The base disc may be Al or Al alloy. Apparatus in which discs may be coated is described comprising a take-up device for supporting a vertically offset disc drive means for rotating during spraying from nozzles 14 and centrifuging at least two coating devices movable in relation to the faces of the disc and an associated drying device.
