Abstract
1402440 Infrared gas analyzer BRITISH LEYLAND MOTOR CORP Ltd 7 Dec 1973 [13 Dec 1972] 57528/72 Heading G1A In an infrared gas analyzer for detecting several gases in a sample, a series of infrared sources 15, 16, 17 are energized in sequence by an electronic drive unit 22 so that radiation will pass in sequence through a corresponding series of band pass filters and via a sample chamber 11 through which the gas to be tested flows. The filters are such that one passes a wavelength that is substantially unabsorbed by any of the gases present, while each of the other filters pass a different wavelength each of which is liable to be absorbed to some extent by a different one of the gases whose presence is being detected and measured. A detector 21 receives the radiation that has passed through the chamber and the detector's output is fed to an electronic processing circuit 23 that is synchronized by the drive unit 22. The electronic processing circuit 23 compares in turn the detector's output signal for the two wavelengths that are liable to be absorbed with the output corresponding to the unabsorbing wavelength, and the result is shown on indicators 24 and 25.
