Abstract

1401872 Apparatus for applying substances to bathwater H HUNDHAUSEN and VA AX 19 June 1972 [24 June 1971 17 Jan 1972] 28532/72 Heading A4N [Also in Divisions B1 and F1] A device of the kind for distributing air, oxygen, or steam and bathing or medical additives, in bathing water in a bathtub comprises a bellows which is provided with one-way valves to form a pump and which is provided with means to enable the bellows to be detachably mounted to one of the ends of the bathtub, the pump being arranged to supply air to perforated tubes of a lattice-like assembly which, in use, is positioned in the bottom of the bathtub. In the embodiment of Fig. 1, a pair of bellows 15, 16 operated by the feet of a bather are connected to perforated tubes 4 and 6 of the lattice-like assembly 2. The lattice-like assembly 2 further includes a perforated tube 5 connected to a water heater 30 for supplying steam. Medical or bathing additives may be added through a filling hole 31 of the heater 30. The pipe 11 connected with the perforated tube 5 may. be connected with an oxygen cylinder. The bellows 15, 16 may be mounted in the bathtub by the mounting (40) Fig. 2 (not shown), which comprises suction cups (43, 44) attachable to the walls of the bathtub. The mounting for the bellows 15, 16 may alternatively take the form of the mounting (50) Fig. 3 (not shown) in which hook-shaped members are supported by a frame (52). In the alternative embodiment of Fig. 4 a pair of bellows 115, 116 are mounted on a valve block 120 provided with suction cups 143, 144. A cover may be positioned on the bathtub and may have an aperture for the head of a bather. The pump of the device may take the form depicted in Fig. 5 (not shown) comprising a bellows 115, a return spring (119), one-way valves 121, 123, and a chamber (127).
