Abstract

1400619 Sheet ordering apparatus XEROX CORP 13 Nov 1972 [15 Nov 1971] 52319/72 Heading B8R A copying machine 11 (e.g. a xerographic machine) having a sheet sorting assembly 32 arranged to direct successive copies of a first document of a set of documents into successive collecting trays is programmed such that it will not make more copies of a document than there are trays. When the number of copies produced has equalled the number of trays the machine automatically commences copying the second document of the set. A first document is fed from a pile 17 on to a platen 12 for copying. If the number of copies required exceeds the number of trays in a first sorting section 53 subsequent copies are directed to a second sorting section 55. If at any time during printing a sorting section is not available to receive copies printing is stopped until the section is available. The sorting assembly may be of the type described in Specification 1,365,399 (Division B8).
