Abstract

1400116 Indexing switches SIEMENS AG 12 Sept 1973 [15 Sept 1972] 42859/73 Heading H1N A detent mechanism for a rotary switch comprises a generally cylindrical cage 3, Fig. 1, rotatable with the spindle 2 and having radially disposed guide grooves 8, 9 containing biased detent elements such as rollers 10 located by an end plate 6 on the cage 3 and engaging a stationary detent track 1. The cage 3 may be formed by zinc or zinc alloy casting or by sintering whereby the grooves 8, 9 are accurately centred at right angles to the shaft centre line. A bore 7 through the shaft 2 is provided for a detent spring 11 and does not require to be accurately centred. In a modification the cage 3 may be mounted on the end of the shaft 2 whereby the necessity for the bore 7 through the shaft is avoided.
