Abstract

1399484 Photographic subbing layers EASTMAN KODAK CO 12 Sept 1972 [13 Sept 1971 7 Aug 1972] 42365/72 Heading G2C [Also in Divisions B2 and C3] Novel acid stable acidic copolymer dispersions prepared by emulsion copolymerization of a preformed unsaturated monocarboxylic acid dispersion in water, are coated on to substrates such as films of polyethylene terephthalate, cellulose nitrate, cellulose esters, poly(vinyl acetol), polystyrene and poly carbonates, to form plastics subbing layers for subsequent coatings of light-sensitive photographic compositions such as silver halide emulsions. In the examples dispersion of copolymers of acrylic acid, acrylonitrile and vinylidene chloride, and itaconic acid, methylacrylate and vinylidene chloride, are coated on to polyethylene terephthalate film to form a subbing layer for various silver halide emulsions.
