Abstract
1398943 Containers; portable space cooling apparatus E MAIL Ltd 4 Sept 1973 41423/73 Headings F4H and F4V [Also in Division F2] A refrigeration or air conditioning unit for use in attaching to the air inlet and outlet ducts of transport containers comprises within a housing 21 defined by a framework 11 and cover panels 20, an air inlet chamber 23 and outlet chamber 24, on a compressor-condenser-evaporator refrigeration system. The unit also includes fans encased in shrouds 22 for moving air past the condenser coil and a centrifugal fan to allow air into the chamber 23 and to discharge the air past the refrigeration system to the chamber 24. The chambers 23, 24 communicate with first and second coupling means 25 projecting from either side of the unit. Each means 25 includes a frame structure 26 which supports extensible inlet and outlet ducts 27, 28 formed of double-walled corrugated plastics hose protected by a pair of coaxial overlapping steel cylinders 29. The unit can thereby service two adjacent transport containers. In a warehouse depot, one unit may be placed on top of another forming a tower. The coupling means 25 may be extended or retracted by a pneumatic cylinder and ram unit 31 and is constructed so as to permit limited misalignment between a container and the unit 10. The coupling frame 26 may be counterweighted so that the lower duct 27 may be aligned up to plus or minus six degrees in any plane and once positioned, the ram unit is actuated to bring the upper duct 28 into alignment.
