Abstract
1398603 Purifying waste water ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY ENG Inc and UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA 21 Sept 1972 43705/72 Heading C1C In a process for purifying waste water the inorganic solids content in the aeration zone 11 is maintained at 30-60% by wt. of the total solids. The waste water is aerated in zone 11 in the presence of activated sludge from separator 14, the purified effluent from separator 14 is flocculated at 21 by the addition of flocculant, e.g. lime, alum or ferric chloride, the rate of addition of which is controlled by pH sensor 24 and pump 25, and the flocculated solids are separated at 27 and passed to zone 11 to help maintain the desired inorganic solids content. Sand may be used to maintain the desired inorganic solids content in zone 11 in the initial stages of the process.
