Abstract
1397799 Decarburizing metal surface for cladding SIEMENS AG 25 Aug 1972 [25 Aug 1971] 39866/72 Heading C7D A metal surface is decarburized, preferably to a depth of 1-5 mm, before cladding by welding. Treatment may be carried out by gas carburization or by coating with a suitable paste and heating the temperature in either case not exceeding 1000C and preferably being 800-900C. The process is applied particularly to cladding steel with austenitic stainless steel or with a highly alloyed wear resistant material, for use in nuclear reactor engineering, chemical engineering or machine construction suitable gases are nitrogen-hydrogen, hydrogen-argon, or hydrogen-carbon dioxidecarbon monoxide, while to decarburize steel from 0.2 to 0.06% to a depth of 3 mm. a suitable treatment is 5 hours at 900C.
