Abstract

1397471 Raised pile fabrics; fiinishing fabrics TORAY INDUSTRIES INC 7 March 1973 [7 March 1972 25 April 1972] 11153/73 Headings D1K, D1P and D1S A raised pile fabric is formed by weaving with wefts consisting of an islands-in-the-sea yarn of extra fine monofilamentary fibres having a dimension of 0.0001 to .4, and a warp of crimped yarns or yarns having a latent crimp, and then removing the sea component, developing the crimp, impregnating the fabric with small amounts of an elastic polymer to stabilise it and subjecting it to a raising process, the raised fibres being mainly the extra fine fibres of the weft. The polymer is distributed in a plurality of little pieces of film or lumps throughout the fabric. The weft may be a spun yarn of bundles of monofilaments and the warp may be a false twisted crimped multifilament yarn containing monofilaments of from 1 to 10 denier. The fabric may be further stabilised by heating to the melting point thereof. In making the fabric, the process steps, starting with sewing, may be varied in order. One example of sequence is:- weaving - removing sea component - development of crimp - raising - anti-pulling processing - rubbing - dyeing and finishing - brushing. There may be drying steps at various places. In a specific example, the warp is 150 denier/48 filament false twisted yarn of polyethylene terephthalate, and the weft a stable yarn "islands-in-ith-sea" type whose island fibres are mainly polyethylene terephthalate and whose sea component is mainly polystyrene. The warp and weft were woven into a 5-end sateen fabric with 100 warps to the inch and 60 wefts to the inch. The denier ratio of weft to warp is 1.75 and the number of weft floats between binding points is 4. The fabric was contracted by immersing in boiling water and then washed 5 times in trichloroethylene to remove the weft sea component. Thereafter the fabric was dyed Midnight Blue in a circular pressurised dyeing machine and then coated with a lubricating or oiling agent, and dried. The dried fabric was then raised and sheared to obtain an excellent nap through which weaving pattern was not conspicuous. This fabric was immersed in 5% dimethylformamide solution of a polyurethane obtained by reacting methylene-bisaniline, diphenylmethane diisocyanate and 75 parts of polyetherglycol and 25 parts of polymer glycol. The impregnated fabric was squeezed, wet coagulated and dried, and the amount of adhered polyurethane was 16.7 grams per square metre. The dried fabric was finished by buffing with sandpaper of mesh 150.
