Abstract

1395507 Battery charging systems; two-part couplings TOWER HOUSEWARES Ltd 14 Aug 1972 [26 Aug 1971] 40108/71 Headings H2H and H2E [Also in Division B1] A cordless domestic appliance such as a food mixer is driven by an electric motor comprising an armature 42 which is powered by a nickelcadmium battery 41, the battery being rechargeable from an A.C. source by means of a transformer 22 and a diode rectifying bridge 37, the bridge 37 being housed in the appliance whilst the transformer 22 is housed in a base stand member, connection between the transformer and the bridge being made by means of two-part couplings 18, 20 and 19, 21 when the appliance is replaced on the stand when not in use whereby the battery 41 is recharged. Thus the battery cannot discharge should the portions 18, 19 of the couplings be short-circuited when the appliance is off the stand. The couplings comprise nickel plated brass members 18, 19 and resiliently deformable nickel plated beryllium copper parts, 20, 21.
