Abstract
1395343 Sealed cell casings PILAS SECAS JUPITER SA 31 May 1972 [5 Aug 1971] 25450/72 Heading H1B The base of a leakproof electrochemical cell comprises a metal dish 1 having an upstanding peripheral flange for fitting over the bottom of a zinc tubular anode 4, a number of perforations 2 distributed over an annular marginal zone, and a downwardly projecting central zone 7, each face of the dish 1 having a thermoplastic material layer 6 applied thereto, the two layers being joined to form a single body by uniting through the perforations 2, the central zone 7 being left uncovered by thermoplastic material to constitute the negative pole. The dish 1 and the zinc anode tube 4 are surrounded by a heat sealable outer casing 3 which, when the thermoplastic material 6 is injected around dish 1, becomes welded thereto in the region 5. A central aperture may be formed in dish 1 to facilitate injection of the thermoplastic material. Alternatively, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), the dish may be covered with the heat sealable material prior to fitting to the anode and the subsequent sealing to the outer casing 3 effected by ultrasonic welding, for example.
