Abstract
1395163 Pulse thresholding circuits SOLARTRON ELECTRONIC GROUP Ltd 25 Sept 1972 [29 Sept 1971] 45370/71 Heading H3T In a circuit for thresholding a signal at the mid-level between its peak values, the threshold level is derived by alternately discharging a charge storage device through respective paths to the greater of erect and inverted versions of the difference between the signal and the threshold level, the latter being derived from one of the paths and being such that the discharge through the two paths is equal. In the time-base triggering circuit shown, the input signal from terminal 12 is applied to one input of a comparator TR3, TR4 and a threshold level is applied to the other so as to produce at the two collectors erect and inverted versions of the difference between the signal and the threshold level. These are used to discharge a capacitor C1 through the base-emitter diodes of TR5 and TR6 to whichever version is the larger. The voltage developed across R6 in response to the current in one discharge path is used after smoothing by C2, C3, R7 as the threshold level at a base of TR4 and the effect of this loop is to equalize the currents in TR5 and TR6 so that the mid-level is achieved. The threshold voltage is also applied to one input of a comparator TR1, TR2 to effect thresholding of the signal applied at 12 and the resulting output is squared in circuit 22 to produce a triggering signal for the time base generator 24. The voltage at the emitters of TR5 and TR6 represents the peak-to-peak amplitude of the signal and this may be used to cause the time base to free-run if the signal amplitude is below a given value.
