Abstract

1393894 Electro-depositing zinc ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd 22 June 1972 [20 July 1971] 33891/71 Heading C7B Zn is electro-depositing e.g. on to degreased mild steel from an aqueous solution comprising (A) zinc sulphamate and (B) HBF 4 and/or one or more salts thereof (e.g. Zn, NH 4 , Na or K) and/ or H 3 BO 3 + HF, with or without (C) a brightening agent such as H 3 BO 3 , an aromatic or unsaturated aliphatic (di) sulphonic acid e.g. 2-butyne-1,4-disulphonic acid or benzene, toluene, naphthalene or alkyl sulphoric acid or alkali metal salt thereof, a sulphonamide or sulphimide e.g. p-toluene or benzene sulphonamide or o-benzoyl sulphimide, o-sulphobenzaldehyde, formaldehyde, chloral or bromal hydrate, coumarin or butyne-diol, and/or (D) a levelling agent such as gelatine (gluten), glucose, starch, glue, goulac, fecula, polyethylene glycol, triethanolamine, gum or guar, hydroxy ethyl starch, casein, albumin, carboxymethyl cellulose, polyvinyl alcohol or alkali metal silicate. Zn 0 or sulphamic acid may be added to adjust the pH to 2-5.
