Abstract

1392387 Multi-deck and column presses BECKER & VAN HULLEN NIEDERRHEINISCHE MASCHINENFABRIK 8 June 1972 [8 June 1971] 26728/72 Heading B5A Distortion of the upper platen 4 of a multideck or column press due to deck heating pipes 16, 17 expanding neighbouring frame posts 2, 2a to a greater (posts 2a) or lesser (posts 2) degree is prevented by ensuring that the temperature of all of the frame posts 2, 2a is kept the same. This may be achieved by passing a heating medium through channels (18, Fig. 3) in posts 2 and/or passing a cooling medium through channels (18) in posts 2a. Alternatively, the posts 2 may be electrically heated. In the former case the channels (18) on at least one longitudinal side of the press may be interconnected to form one or more closed systems. The heating medium passing through the pipes 16, 17 may be passed through the relevant channels in posts 2. The channels (18) may be formed by plates or tubes attached to the posts 2, 2a. The decks 5 may be raised simultaneously via a common linkage (8-11, Fig. 1) attached to a lower platen (7) actuated by a piston (6) so that layers of chipboard material 12 may be pressed therebetween.
