Abstract

1391813 Yarn storing and delivering; accumulator drum BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CABLES Ltd 6 Nov 1973 [6 Nov 1972] 51128/72 Addition to 1191915 Headings D1F and D1J An accumulator for the temporary storage of wire or the like comprises a drum 6 detachably supported on a frame 1 and rotated by drive means 4, 5; a flier 7 mounted on a free end of the drum and driven by the drum via friction means 8 to exert tension in the wire; and an input guide 9 for guiding wire onto the drum; the arrangement being such that when wire passing from a supply to a take-up is caused to pass through the input guide 9, a length of the wire can be wrapped around the drum; and such that at any time whilst the drum 6 is stationary and accumulated wire is being drawn off the drum via the flier 7 the drum with the flier mounted thereon can be removed from the spindle 2 of the supporting frame 1. In the drawing the flier 7 is driven by the drum 6 via a friction coupling 8 in the same direction as but at a slower speed than the drum 6. The guide 9 is traversed by a screw-threaded spindle 3. The driving means may be a variable speed or variable torque motor 5.
