139,159. Koppers Co., (Assignees of Davis, H. S., and Semenow, S. D.). Feb. 15, 1919, [Convention date]. Treating-materials.-Waste liquors from ammonia stills are filtered through ground lignite. Preliminary treatment may include aeration, separation of solids by settling, filtration through slag or other inorganic substance, which may contain iron oxide, and treatment with ferrous and cupric sulphate to remove cyanogen compounds. The liquor may be passed finally through a filter-bed of earth. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes the use of peat or other humus material, which will absorb phenols, as alternatives to lignite. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
