Abstract

1391477 Sawtooth wave generating circuits; synchronizing television time bars PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 25 April 1972 [28 April 1971] 19096/72 Headings H3A and H3T A sawtooth generator comprises means 12 for charging a capacitor, means 8 for discharging the capacitor in response to amplitude limited pulses derived from the flyback pulse C of a television line time-base and means for controlling the charge current to maintain the mean amplitude of sawtooth waves constant. The circuit described is for generating the comparison wave for the AFC circuit of the line time-base and it is explained that clipping the flyback pulse and stabilizing the mean level removes jitter due to flyback pulse height and width variations. The mean level is controlled in the circuit shown by comparing a reference voltage at the base of transistor 14 with the mean level of the wave desired from the wave by a filter 19-22. The resulting voltage across 13 controls the charging transistor 12. The flyback pulse may also be applied to a transistor 26 to cut-off the charging current during the flyback.
