Abstract
1391434 Television standards conversion BRITISH BROADCASTING CORP 24 March 1972 [26 March 1971] 7969/71 Heading H4F Television line standard conversion is effected by the following steps in either order (i) synthesising each output line by combining information taken from two or more input lines, and (ii) changing the line frequency by a simple ratio of small integers which ratio is slightly different from the actual ratio of the output to input line frequencies. When the simple ratio is slightly greater than the ratio of the output to input line frequencies, e.g. 3 : 2 for 625 to 405 conversion, or 5 : 6 or 4 : 5 for 525 to 625 conversion, then surplus lines are eliminated. The interpolation, i.e. synthesising of each output line, is effected with six one-line period delays connected in series, the resulting simultaneously available seven input lines being added together with different weighting coefficients. The line frequency changing, i.e. time redistribution, is effected using eight oneline stores. Reference is directed towards Figs. 1 and 4, of Specification 1,326,386. The converter may be used in combination with a field standards converter described in Specification 1,052,438.
