Abstract
1391297 Introducing cullet into furnace HOTWORK Inc 1 Aug 1972 [17 Sept 1971] 35939/72 Heading C1M [Also in Division F4] Apparatus 11 for use in melting cullet comprises a glass melting furnace F; an elongate chamber 12 whose foward end 32 opens into the furnace F; a baffle 44 provided in chamber 12 and defining, with bottom wall 26, a gap 46; a hopper 51 opening into the chamber 12 forward of baffle 44; and means 43 for supplying air to the chamber rearward of the baffle. The air stream from supply means 43 passes through the chamber 12 and has its flow speed increased by the baffle 44, so that cullet supplied from hopper 51 is entrained in the air stream and carried into the melting furnace. A cooling water-jacket 60 (Fig. 3, not shown) may be provided at the forward end of the chamber 12 (adjacent the furnace).
