1391210 Web winding E D WARBURTON & CO Ltd 29 Oct 1973 [5 Aug 1972] 36658/72 Heading B8R In a continuously operating web winding machine the core change is effected by transferring a web, passing from beneath a winding drum 1, from a finished roll 9 to a new core 7 in that a nip roller 2 is brought into contact with the web beneath the drum, the finished reel is removed from contact with the drum and braked to cause slack in the web between the nip roller 2 and the reel 9, whereupon the new core 7, the surface of which is coated with an adhesive or a double sided adhesive tape, is brought into contact with the drum 1 to pick up the web by means of the adhesive. Slack formation is assisted by a blast of air delivered from a blast nozzle 5 and the adhesive on the core is prevented form contacting the drum 1 by applying to the ends of the core bands of adhesive tape, paper, plastics rubber or cords.
