Abstract

1390730 Rollers ESCHER WYSS Ltd 26 Oct 1973 [26 Oct 1972] 50078/73 Heading F2U A press roll 1 (e.g. for papermaking) comprises a stationary beam 3 mounting and guiding a row of hydrostatic support elements 4, each with a shoe 4<SP>1</SP> supporting a shell 2 rotatable about the beam, and each being a different distance from the transverse centre plane B of the shell. Preferably the interval t between the elements is uniform and is four times the offset e of the transverse plane A of symmetry of the elements, from the plane B. Preferably the width s of the track 10 of each shoe 4<SP>1</SP> is less than half the interval t. The elements 4 may be closer together at the centre of the shell.
