Abstract

1390604 Laminating fabrics BOSTIK Ltd 25 Feb 1972 [26 Feb 1971] 5504/71 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] A thermoplastic adhesive comprises a thermoplastic copolyamide corresponding to a reaction product of (a) 5 to 65 mol. per cent aminoundecanoic acid (b) 60 to 25% caprolactam and (c) 50 to 5% of a substantially equimolar mixture of a diamine NH 2 (CH 2 ) n NH 2 and diacid HOOC(CH 2 ) m COOH, where n and m are each 2 to 10, and has a melt viscosity of 120 to 600 p./240‹ C. and a softening point of 110‹ to 175‹ C. Bonding fabrics.-The adhesive may be applied as a powder, melt, web or net, either directly or from a release surface, to a fabric based on natural fibres, e.g. wool, flex, cotton or silk, or synthetic fibres, e.g. rayon or polyester. In a preferred embodiment powdered adhesive in a quantity of 14 to 40 g./sq. yd. is interposed between fabric layers, heat and pressure is applied to bond the layers, and the assembly is cooled.
