Abstract
1390514 Aerials MARCONI CO Ltd 13 Sept 1972 [24 Nov 1971] 54539/71 Heading H4A A circularly polarized aerial element comprises a spiral radiator 2 behind a cruciform slot 5 in a screening member 6. As described, the radiator 2 is formed on a printed circuit base 1 and is fed by means of a lead 4 which passes through a ground plane member 3. An array may be constituted by a plurality of spiral radiators on the base 1, and screening between radiators be provided by rows and columns of conductive posts 7. The space 8 between the members 1 and 6 may be filled with solid dielectric material. The spiral radiators 2 may be of circular or square form, and be of Archimedean or equiangular type. They may be doubled for balancing, and be load-terminated for matching. The slots 5 in the member 6 may be shaped as Greek or Maltese crosses, or be formed by crossed pairs of dumb-bell slots (Fig. 2, not shown).
