Abstract

1390231 Polyurethane foams IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 12 March 1973 [17 March 1972 19 April 1972] 12593/72 and 18113/72 Heading C3R Flexible polyurethane foams are prepared by reacting an organic polyisocyanate with a polyether polyol having a hydroxyl number of 15 to 56 in the presence of a blowing agent and a catalyst for the trimerization of isocyanates, the polyisocyanate being used so as to provide from 1À25 to 1À5 equivalents of isocyanate groups for each equivalent of active hydrogen. The polyisocyanates, polyethers, blowing agents and catalysts are those used conventionally in the art. In an example a flexible foam is made by mixing a poly-(oxypropylene-oxyethylene)triol of M.W. 5300, potassium acetate as trimerization catalyst, water and tolylene diisocyanate at an isocyanate index of 135.
