Abstract

1390036 Mechanical switches; retractive switches LUCAS ELECTRICAL CO Ltd 8 Sept 1972 [9 Oct 1971] 47102/71 Heading H1N A switch comprises a rotor 12 which rotates cam element 21 having cams 22 which force member 19b (or 19a or 19c, Fig. 2, not shown) upwards compressing a layer 18 of resilient insulating material loaded with electrically conducting particles which layer becomes conductive at the part compressed, to bridge adjacent contacts 14c (14b, or 14a, 14b, or 14c, 14d, Fig. 2), member 19b (or 19a or 19c) overlapping a pair of the contacts 14a, 14b, 14c, 14d. The switch is intended for use as an ignition switch, rotor 12 being turned by an ignition key and contact 14b being connected to a voltage supply and contacts 14a, 14c, 14d being connected to auxiliary, ignition and starter terminals for the vehicle. A detent is provided by ball 23 and projections 24 which hold the rotor 12 in all positions except start. A torsion spring 25 returns rotor 12 from the start position. Members 15 are terminals.
