Abstract

1389904 Heat exchangers for steam generation BABCOCK & WILCOX CO 28 June 1972 [14 July 1971] 30310/72 Heading F4A [Also in Division G6] A heat-exchange module comprises upper and lower headers 52, 53 an inlet feedwater tube 56 for conducting water to the lower header, a plurality of heat-exchange tubes 47 for conducting the water from the lower to the upper header, and an outlet 60 from the upper header. Ferritic steel may be used in the construction of the heat exchange module which is adapted for use with a nuclear reactor. In the reactor, the module is assembled adjacent similar modules to form a lattice arrangement above and outside the periphery of the nuclear core (Fig. 2, not shown). The modules are staggered vertically (Fig. 4, not shown) to provide improved access thereto by the reactor coolant. The bundle of heat-exchange tubes 47 of the module is supported against bowing by means of grids 52. The outlet steam from groups of nine and ten modules passes to manifolds.
