Abstract
1389432 Propionicacid BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 11 July 1972 [12 July 1971] 32333/72 Heading C2C Crude propionic acid prepared by reaction of ethylene with carbon monoxide in the presence of nickel carbonyl is purified from nickel carbonyl by treating with a gas containing oxygen, countercurrent in a trickling phase. The gas may be inert containing from 3 to 10% by volume of oxygen and the inert gas may be the off-gas from the preparation of propoinic acid obtained after the removal of nickel carbonyl. 5 To 20 cubic metres of inert gas containing 2 to 10% by volume of oxygen are used for each cubic metre of crude propionic acid.
