1388505 Girdles INTERNATIONAL PLAYTEX CORP 6 Dec 1972 [13 Dec 1971] 56360/ 72 Heading A3V A girdle having a waist region constructed so as to resist curling or rolling over comprises a body encircling region 12 terminating at the upper part thereof in a plurality of upwardly projecting areas 22, e.g. of the scalloped formation shown, so as to provide a number of open spaces between the areas shown, and extensible band of material 36 extending circumferentially of the upper part of the body encircling region 12, the band being secured to the marginal edges of the areas 22 by stitching 36. Additionally a line of stitching 30 may also be provided at the intended position of the waistline of a wearer to secure the band 36 to the body of the girdle. The band 36 is preferably of elastic stretchable only in the circumferential direction, and the body encircling region 12 of two way stretch fabric. A central panel 16 of vertically extensible material may be included in the front of the region 12 and this may extend to one of the areas 22. The stitching 30 does not extend over the panel 16. The band 36 may extend only part way round the circumference of the girdle, the gap thus formed preferably being located at the back, and the width of the band 36 may be such as to just cover the open spaces between the area 22, to extend above the area 22, or to extend below the line of stitching 30.
