Abstract

1387612 Yarn feeding arrangement for knitting machines LIR SpA LABORATORIO ITALIANO RICERCHE 24 March 1972 [30 March 1971] 13808/72 Heading D1C Between a yarn storage means and a yarn working machine is provided a yarn feed device comprising yarn guide means 3 for a plurality of yarns and a roller 2 movable between an inoperative position and an operative position in which it contacts the yarns without slip. As shown, Fig. 1A, roller 2 is moved to and from its operative position through a rack and pinion drive 6 by a reversible motor. The roller may be started to rotate before it engages the yarn, Fig. 5C (not shown). The yarns may pass round two parallel cylinders 1a, 1b Fig. 2C mounted on shafts 2a, 2b carried by a support 15 pivoted by motor 16 between engaging and disengaging positions. In another arrangement, rollers 1a, 1b, 1c are carried on shafts 2a, 2b, 2c, shafts 2a, 2b being carried on levers operated by an air cylinder to move them between a position where yarns pass between roller 1c and rollers 1a and 1b and a position where the yarns are caused to engage roller 1c, Fig. 3A. In a further arrangement, an electromagnetic brake 9 acts on two cylinders round which the yarn passes, Fig. 4E, and a stop motion comprising a brake 11 applied to the rollers in the event of a yarn breakage or the like is provided.
