Abstract
1387250 Dolls, &c M I GLASS [trading as MARVIN GLASS & ASSOCIATES] 10 Oct 1973 [26 Jan 1973] 47310/73 Heading A6S A doll 10, Figs. 1, 2, carries in one hand a paint brush, &c 20, a piece of paper, &c 18 on a support 16 being movable relatively to the paint brush, &c. Turning a handle 30, Fig. 3, drives through step-up ratio gearing 36, 46 to a shaft 48 mounting a rotary table 16 carrying the paper, &c 18. At the same time, the handle shaft 28 drives through a flexible shaft 82 to turn two plates 96, 100 coupled by a rod 98 eccentric to their coincident axes of rotation. Downwardly depending ears 110a, 110b, Fig. 4, on a bracket 106 fast within the upper part 68 of the doll's torso which is pivoted on the lower part 70 of its torso, embrace the eccentrically mounted rod 98. Thus as the handle 30 is turned, the upper torso part 68 turns back and forth between the positions shown in Figs. 1 and 2. In the latter, the brush 20 is dipped into paint, &c 150 in receptacles on a table 12b. The doll's arm 64a carrying the paint brush 20 is journalled by a ball-andsocket 78, Fig. 4, together with a shaft 130, in the upper torso 68. A flexible strap 112 (see also Fig. 3) connects a radial pin 128 to a lever 120 engaging a cam surface on the periphery of the plate 100. As the latter turns with the handle 30, the doll's arm 64a and the paint brush 20 are raised away from the paper 18, the upper torso 68 turns on the lower 70, and the arm 64a is then lowered to dip the brush 20 in the paint 150. Subsequently the brush 20 is raised from the table 12b, and lowered back onto the paper 18. The table 12b, Fig. 4, can be turned about its support 140. The shaft 130 connected to the arm 64a carries a radial pin 134 (see also Fig. 3) embraced by the arms of a fork 131 fast with a shaft 136 carrying the doll's head 62. Thus as the arm 64a &c is raised and lowered, the doll's head 62 nods back and forth.
