Abstract

1385922 4-5A-Zeolite Y YATSURUGI T KURATOMI and T TAKAISHI 27 Jan 1972 [31 March 1971 2 Oct 1971] 3936/72 Heading ClA [Also in Division C5] Zeolites with characteristics between those of 4A and 5A zeolites is prepared by contacting an A-type zeolite with K ions and Zn ions to allow exchange with ion-exchangeable cations in the A-type zeolite, the concentration of the zinc and the potassium ions in the solutions being such that 16À7 to 33À3% of the ion-exchangeable cations in the zeolite is replaced by K ions and 66À7 to 83À3% is replaced by Zn ions, equilibrium having been reached. The K and Zn ions may be contacted simultaneously or separately and the initial zeolite may be of a Na-A type. The K and Zn ions may be supplied as a solution of the chloride or nitrate. The resulting zeolite may be used for the separation of substances which are not adsorbed by Na-A type zeolites but are adsorbed by Ca-A type zeolites. Diborane may be isolated using a 4-5A zeolite with 75% Zn ions and 25% K ions. Arsine and phosphine and mono-silane are also adsorbed well. Germane may be isolated or separating cis- 2-butene and trans-2-butene using a 4-5A zeolite with 68% Zn ions and 32% K ions.
