Abstract

1385749 Bearings TIMKEN CO 11 July 1972 32392/72 Heading F2A In a tapered roller bearing, each raceway 28, 40 is relieved to form a circumferential depression 36, 42 therein so that full line contact with the rollers is avoided. The depth of the depression is greater than the thickness of an elastohydrodynamic oil film. Each race may be cooled by fluid circulating in circumferential grooves 44 cut in the surface remote from the bearing surface. The outer race may be located in the housing 6 by a clamping member 27.
