Abstract

1385255 Welding by fusion MESSER GRIESHEIM GmbH 15 Sept 1972 [16 Sept 1971] 42901/72 Heading B3R In a MIG arc welding torch, a contact tube 4 is releasably secured in a torch barrel 3 by a cross-pin 2 which is radially guided in said barrel and inwardly cammed into engagement with the contact tube on rotation of a clamping ring 1 having a cross-pin-engaging, circular arc, cam groove 8. To prevent jamming under heat, preferably clearances are provided between the cross-pin 2 and the barrel 3 and between the latter and the ring 1. The cross-pin and clamping ring are preferably of metal, and said ring may have a heat-resistant, electrically insulating coating, e.g. of plastics material. As shown, the clamping ring comprises two layers the inner of which is of low coefficient of friction material. The cross-pin is headed to prevent its dropping into the barrel on contact tube removal. A channel 10 in the clamping ring permits the latter to be pushed from the barrel 3 over the head of the cross-pin. The barrel has a pentagonal cross-section liner 7 providing five gas ducts 6. A gas nozzle 5 is screwed on to the barrel.
