Abstract
1384270 Cleaning carpets &c LEIFHEIT INTERNATIONAL GUNTER LEIFHEIT GmbH 15 Aug 1972 [24 Aug 1971] 38040/72 Heading A4F An appliance for foam cleaning carpets, &c., comprises a valve 70 controlling the flow of liquid detergent to a foaming unit from a storage tank 14 and opened by control means actuated by parts of the appliance during operation of the latter, means e.g. a spring 75, for biasing the valve 70 to closed position, and means 90 for locking the valve in closed position. The means 90 comprises a member 91 pivotably mounted in an eccentric aperture 95 in a member 39 rotatable with the closure cap of the tank 14 whereby the member 91 is engageable with a head 76 on the stem 74 of the valve 70 to hold the valve closed. When the lock is released the valve 70 may be opened by movement of the valve stem 74 by a member 73 carrying bearings 54' for supporting brush rollers 21 Fig.4 (not shown). When the appliance is moved over the carpet the member 73 is actuated by relative movement of the rollers 21 and the appliance; the detergent liquid flows through the valve 70 to a trough shaped distributor 56 to be applied to a sponge roller 15 Fig.4 (not shown) engaged by further sponge rollers (16, 17) to generate foam which is applied to the carpet by a further sponge roller (20'). The locking device 90 may alternatively lock the valve 70 in a number of different open positions to provide different rates of flow of the detergent liquid.
