Abstract
1384096 Punched tape reader INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 6 June 1972 [25 June 1971] 26262/72 Heading G4M [Also in Division H1] In a punched card reader in which air is blown upwards through a row of holes (44), Fig. 2 (not shown), for selective passage to holes 66a-66x, Fig. 5, associated with diaphragm actuated electric switches (not shown) the holes 66a-66x have connecting grooves 72a-72x disposed forwardly and rearwardly in the upper face of the base-plate 52 to distribute the air to outlets (76a-76x), Fig. 7 (not shown), disposed in four rows spaced according to the required spacing of the centres of the diaphragms. Longitudinal grooves 68 are arranged on the underside of the plate 52 to reduce cross-talk and permit the diaphragms to vent to atmosphere through the holes 66a-66x when covered by the punched cards. Similar longitudinal grooves (46), Fig. 2 (not shown), are arranged to correspond with each blow hole (44) whereby air from the supply can escape to atmosphere when all the holes (44) are covered by a card.
