Abstract
1383191 Mica paper laminates SCHWEIZERISCHE ISOLA-WERKE 5 April 1972 [8 April 1971] 15698/72 Heading B5N [Also in Division H1] Tapping tapes for insulating electrical conductors comprise a porous substrate, e.g. glass silk fabric or glass or synthetic fibre felt, bonded to mica paper by an adhesive as defined below which also acts as an accelerator for resincuring agent systems such as epoxy resins which are subsequently added to the lappings. The adhesive is prepared by quantitative reaction of the ethylene oxide groups of an epoxy resin, having a softening point (ASTM E 28), above 50 C. and containing at least two ethylene oxide groups, with a secondary amine NHR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP> to produce groups of formula where R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> are straight-chain C 1 -C 4 alkyl groups, or together constitute an alkylene group which may be interrupted by a heteroatom. The adhesive is applied to the substrate in solution form; only the minimum a mount necessary should be used. Following adhesion the product is cut into strip or tape form. The adhesive may be produced by reacting an epoxy novolak, bisphenol-A diglycidyl etherbased epoxy resin or a heterocyclic ring- containing epoxy resin with dimethylamine, diethylamine, di-n-propylamine, pyrrolidine, piperidine, morpholine or thiomorpholine.
