Abstract

1382374 Expressing measurement LEEDS & NORTHRUP CO 7 March 1973 [20 March 1972] 11106/73 Heading G1J [Also in Division B6] In a self-balancing recorder including a chart 14 and drive means therefor, a marker assembly 16 is movable across the chart 14 on a shaft 17 and a cross-member 28 fixed to a pair of arms 29, 31, movable around the shaft 17 and supporting a slidewire 24, a strip 26 and a plate 27 and the arrangement is such that a contact support bracket 22 supports a pair of spring- loaded contacts 23, 25 engaging the slidewire 24 and strip 26 for effecting rotation of the marker assembly 16 about the shaft 17 to move a marker 15 into the recording position relative to the chart 14. Clockwise rotation of the assembly 16 is limited by a stop 33 and counter-clockwise rotation by an eccentric cam 35, Figs.3 and 4 (not shown), at spring-loaded open lift lever, Figs.3 and 4 (not shown), mounted on the side plate 11 and connected to an arm 29, moves the slidewire assembly to move the marker assembly 16 and hence the pen 15 into or out of contact with the chart 14. The marker assembly 16 is provided with a protrusion 40B which engages the plate 27 when the pen 15 is moved out of the operative position. The pen 15, which may have a sapphire or felt tip 15A, is a capillary pen normally securely held in a position at right angles to the shaft 17 in a slot 40J formed in a plastics, transparent, moulded body 40, which has a hollow interior to receive ink which may be placed under pressure by a digitally operated bulbous portion. The pen assembly 16 is moved to and fro along the shaft 17 by a cable 17A, strung in the manner shown in Fig.7, driven by a motor 19 through a pulley 18. Run 57 carries a moulded plastics index 20 movable over a scale 21 to indicate the position of the pin 15. The assembly 16 is driven by knob 17C engaging ears 40C on body 40.
