Abstract

1381522 Feeding sheets H NIELSEN & SON MASKINFABRIK AS 6 Jan 1972 712/72 Heading B8R Metal sheets of various sizes are separated from a pile by a magnetic device comprising a supporting girder 62 and a plurality of magnet carrying frame members 63-70 freely suspended from the girder by wires 71-72 such that they lie in a plane forming an angle B with the girder and thus with the face of the pile. In use, the girder is lowered until all frame members lie on the face of the pile and the magnets are then energized. Raising of the girder lifts the frames progressively so that if a short sheet 78<SP>1</SP> is being lifted, Fig. 2, only magnets 15, 9, 21 and 80 engage the sheet and the magnet 81 is pivoted about axis 83 relative to its side frame 4 as the frame member 64 is lifted. This pivoting actuates microswitch 84 which switches off magnet 81 and all magnets positioned rearwardly thereof. With a long sheet, Fig. 6, magnet 100 of frame member 65<SP>1</SP> is pivoted. The frame member may be linked by springs 104 or hinges (99, Fig. 3, not shown).
