Abstract

1381387 Cordless drills STRAD INSTRUMENTATION Ltd 1 Oct 1973 [29 Sept 1972] 45146/72 Heading B3C [Also in Division F2] A cordless drill comprises a casing 10 containing an electric motor 12 which drives a chuck 22 through shafts 14, 18, the motor being sealed within the casing by a wall 30 arranged between two discs 34, 36, carried by the shaft and having sealing rings 38, 40. Casing 10 is of plastics material and is adapted to have a battery-containing-casing screwed thereon at end 26. The drill is to be used for bone surgery and when it is placed in the sterilizing steam or boiling water the pressure acts on disc 34 to provide the seal. When the steam condenses in portion 52 of the easing, disc 36 is drawn against wall 30 to cause the seal. The motor switch 54 is a magnetic switch and does not require to have a hole in casing 10.
