Abstract

SCHOELLER & CO ELEKTROTECHNISCHE FABRIK 22 Dec 1972 [24 Jan 1972 9 Nov 1972] 59444/72 Heading F4R The socket in which a cigar lighter is housed on the dashboard of a motor vehicle is surrounded by an illuminated ring so that it can be located easily at night. In a first embodiment, Figs. 1 and 5, a lamp housing 2 is mounted on the socket 1 and comprises a lamp compartment 15 and a white painted reflection compartment 16 separated by a partition 20, light from a bulb 6 in the compartment 15 passing through slots 21, 22 into the compartment 16 and thence into a transparent ring 4 which projects through the dashboard 9 into the compartment. The rear surface of the front portion of the ring 4, which abuts the dashboard, is provided with prisms (3) to direct the light forward into the vehicle. The socket 1 has a flange 10 which abuts the ring 4 and is surrounded by a compression spring 7 one end of which urges the lamp housing 2 against the rear surface of the dashboard and the other end of which abuts a plate 8 engaged by means of a bayonet-type fitting with the inner end of the socket. In a second embodiment, Fig. 12, the transparent ring 56 is integral with a sleeve 55 on which a holding member 61 for a lamp compartment 62 is mounted. A light-conducting extension 60 projects from the sleeve 55 into the compartment. The sleeve 55 has inwardly projecting clamping lugs (70) which are pressed outwardly when the socket (52) is inserted into the sleeve and embed themselves in the edges of the dashboard aperture.
