Abstract
1380911 Anthraquinone dyes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 6 April 1972 [11 Jan 1971 12 Oct 1971] 1215/71 and 47453/71 Heading C4P The invention comprises water soluble anthraquinone dyestuffs of the general formula wherein Z is an optionally further substituted hydrocarbon radical carrying at least one half sulphuric acid ester or sulphonic acid group. Z may be an alkyl, aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl radical. They are prepared by (a) sulphating or sulphonating the corresponding anthraquinone compounds having a 1-NHY substituent where Y is a hydrocarbon radical optionally substituted by one or more hydroxy and/or other substituents or (b) reacting 1,8-dihydroxy-4- amino-5-nitroanthraquinone with a primary amine Z-NH 2 where Z is as above in presence of boric acid, its anhydride or a derivative thereof of the formula (MO) 3 B wherein M is alkyl or aryl and a secondary or tertiary organic base, e.g. pyridine or a polar solvent, e.g. dimethylformamide or dimethyl sulphoxide. The dyes give blue and greenish blue shades on polyamides.
