Abstract

1380536 Armoured fighting vehicle DR-ING HCF PORSCHE AG 19 July 1973 [21 July 1972] 34509/73 Heading F3C An armoured fighting vehicle has an automatic loading device for the main gun 1, the latter being adjustable in elevation and in azimuth and automatically loaded from two conveyer magazines 3, 4 positioned one above the other in a chamber, and extending transversely of the vehicle. Each magazine contains a different type of munition and has a rotatable endless belt 5, the inner loop 8 of each belt lying in a common vertical plane with the breech block 2 of the gun 1. The loading device serves both conveyer magazines and is positioned in a loading chamber 16 of the vehicle. The conveyer magazines 3, 4 are positioned behind the breech block 2 a distance corresponding to the length of a projectile. The loading device comprises a vertical guide member 9 which extends over the whole height of the loading chamber 16 and a motor-driven loading rocker arm 11 which is movable on the guide member 9 and is provided with a differential gear 12 so that the rocker arm can be rotated about a vertical axis and a horizontal axis and be positioned in alignment with the breech block 2, even when the gun is displaced in azimuth and/or in elevation. The conveyer magazine 3 is suspended from a displaceable flap 15, this facilitating the replenishing of both projectiles 6 and 7. In order to fire a projectile 6, it is initially brought by the conveyer magazine 3 into a preparation unit (not shown) which is in alignment with the gun 1. The projectile 6 is then grasped by the rocker arm 11 of the loading device and after partial rotation, if such is necessary due to angular displacement of the gun from the position shown in Fig. 2, is pushed into the breech block 2 of the gun 1. Similarly a projectile 7 may be loaded into the gun.
