Abstract
1379362 Controlling vehicles EICHER TRAKTORENUND LANDMASCHINENWERKE GmbH Gebr 19 Jan 1973 [19 Jan 1972] 3021/73 Heading B7H [Also in Division F1] An arrangement for limiting the maximum speed of a vehicle includes a lockable lostmotion linkage connecting the accelerator pedal to an engine speed control device, e.g. the control lever of a fuel injection pump, the lost motion linkage being locked when low gears are engaged and being unlocked when high gears are engaged. In a first embodiment (Fig. 2 the accelerator pedal 115 is connected to the engine speed controller 117 by rods 114, 116 and a lost motion device 112 including a housing 123, locking member 119 controlled by electromagnet 118 and adjustable stop 122. When low gears are engaged by lever 129 switch 126 is closed, thus energizing electromagnet 118 so that the locking member 119 moves to a position in front of end face 120 of rod 114. Thus the lost motion device 112 is locked and the full range of engine speeds is permitted. When high gears are engaged by lever 129 switch 126 is opened and locking member 119 is retracted by spring 121. Depression of accelerator pedal 115 then causes no movement of rod 116 until rod 114 engages stop 122. Thus the range of engine speeds is limited, thus limiting the maximum speed of the vehicle. The maximum speed can be varied by adjusting the position of stop 122. In a second embodiment (Fig. 3) the accelerator pedal (not shown) is connected by lever 21 and linkage 17 to a lever 18 which carries a locking member 20, 22 operated by electromagnet 19. A rocking block 16 is mounted on the engine speed controller shaft 15. When low gears are engaged locking member 22 enters a recess 24 on the rocking block 16. When high gears are engaged the locking member 22 moves along a slot in the rocking block 16 until it engages an adjustable stop 25.
