Wringers, attaching to washing-machines; washing-machines with plungers having both rotary and axially-reciprocating motion.-In a combined washing and wringing machine., a framework carries the washing-receptacle and the wringer independently of each other, and the wringer is capable of horizontal rotation about a vertical spindle away from the position above the tub. The frame consists of three legs 6 connected by braces 7 and a skeleton platform 8 which supports the tub 2 and the vertically-reciprocated plunger-rod 24. A curved band 11 also connects two of the legs and assists in supporting a post 12 on which the wringer is rotatably mounted by means of the tubular boss 74 of the housing 72. To prevent overbalancing when the wringer is swung right away from the tub, an additional leg 16 is provided, and when the apparatus is to be used in conjunction with a fixed laundry vat A, a clamping-bracket 19 may be used. The platform 8 supports beneath it an electric motor 5 adapted to drive a crank-shaft 43 through gearing and a clutch 50. The crank 44 raises and lowers the plunger-rod 24 through a link 45 and pivoted arm 46, and slight rotary movements are given to the rod at each stroke by suitable mechanism. The raising of the plunger-rod is assisted by a spring 57. The wringer is driven from the crank-shaft 43 through bevel-gearing 70, vertical shaft 71, and a clutch 78, which conveys the drive through reversing-gearing consisting of bevel-wheels 76, 77, and is adjusted by means of a handle 81 upon a rock-shaft 80 carrying an eccentric roller 82 adapted to enter an annular groove in the clutch member. The wringer is locked in any one of its four possible positions by a spring locking-bolt 90 carried by the sleeve 74 and adapted to enter any one of four radial apertures 93 in the post 12. Suitable locking-means maintain the clutch for the motor in adjusted position.
