Abstract
1379222 Emulsifying compositions for dispersing oil BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 28 Jan 1972 [29 Jan 1971] 3465/71 Heading B1V [Also in Division C1] An emulsifying composition for forming oilin-water emulsions comprises a condensation product of 1 molecular proportion of one or more long chain (i.e. C11-C20) aliphatic alcohols with 1.5 to 6.0 molecular proportions of ethylene oxide, dissolved in a hydrocarbon solvent containing less than 5% by volume aromatic compounds, and hexylene glycol. The alcohols specified are lauryl, myristyl, cetyl, oleyl and stearyl. A suitable alcohol mixture can be obtained by hydrogenation of sperm oil. The hydrocarbon solvent may a mixture of paraffins, insoparaffins and/or naphthenes (e.g. kerosine).
