Abstract
1378764 Continuous casting USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS Inc 29 Nov 1971 [27 Nov 1970] 55235/71 Heading B3E A bending roll assembly 10 for deflecting a casting 12 along a path which eventually becomes horizontal, carries bearing means, such as shoes 17, slidably engaging rails 15, fixed to a casting machine frame 16, so that the assembly can be moved along the rails, e.g. by cables 43 and 46, an hydraulic cylinder or a motor-driven worm-gear, into and out of a casting-receiving position (indicated in full lines). The assembly 10 moves on the rails 15 between stops 19a, 19b and is located and held in the correct operating position by bolts 18 passed through aligned holes in shoes and rails. It has a downwardly-extending arm 24, pivoted on a pin 25 of a frame 20 and bearing a flanged roll 23 which is thrust by a screw-jack (through a linkage 28 to the arm 24) to coact with flanged rolls 21, 22 on the frame 20 to deflect the verticallydescending casting 12. When a damaged or worn assembly 10 needs replacing, the arm 24 is locked in position by a pin 32 inserted through aligned holes 30 and 31 in the frame 20 and arm, a pin 35 is removed to disengage the screw-jack linkage 28 and cable 46 is attached before the bolts 18 are removed. The assembly 10 is pulled to the position shown in chain lines and lifted off by means of lugs 37.
